April showers bring May flowers

April 27, 2008

It rained last night for a little bit - we really needed the rain (ironic, given all the snow that we had). And it seems like everything has perked up and is now green (like the grass). The tulips and daffodils are just starting to bloom too.

Tawny catching a frisbee

April 24, 2008

It was a gorgeous day - t-shirt and shorts type of weather. Of course, the cold wetness that western Canada had is coming our way early next week. Oh Joy!

Dog problem solved

April 22, 2008
I had the idea that if I hooked the leashes together, it would be easier to take Tawny and Taz for a walk. Hah! They just get the leash tangled up around their legs, wrapped around trees, etc...

Brody and Kirby had been aggressive towards Taz, but they were able to sort out their differences. This photo shows them all getting along well together.

April 18-22 - the end of the ice

April 18, 2008 Panorama
The warm weather put an end to the ice on the lake quite quickly. This panorama was taken from the north-eastern shore of the lake. You can see significant ice is still present, although quite a bit of water opening up at the edges of the lake.

April 19, 2008 Panorama
The ice is looking very waterlogged and is disappearing fast.

April 20, 2008 Panorama
The ice has disappeared.

April 22, 2008 Panorama
Despite the warm weather, there is still snow in the shade. This shows that it there must have been a huge drift there.

Lake starting to open up

April 15th - signs of life from the tulip and daffodils. I guess the squirrels didn't get them all.

April 16th
Taz was way out on the ice and we were not comfortable with that. We called him and he came tearing back to us.

Not quite spring yet...

April 11, 2008

We have had some mild weather, but it has been near 0C for the last few days, and it has been below 0C overnight, so although most of the snow has melted, there is still quite a thick layer of ice on the lake.

April 11, 2008

Tawny and Taz had a busy day and were quite tired afterwards. Tawny had an encounter with a groundhog - she must have been trying to sniff it inquisitively - and she got a nip on the lips for her bother. I was inside, and heard a yelp and saw the groundhog hightailing it outa there.

April 12, 2008

Tawny always manages to find new nooks to explore.

Tawny is at the lower right corner of this photo. Both Tawny and Taz like playing in the water.

More snow (Apr 4)

Snow is falling.

A chilly day (Apr 2)

These photos were taken today, Tuesday April 12th. After a very mild 13C day yesterday, today was a chilly -6C. The lake is starting to get more water around the perimiter and the dogs are loving it. In the top photo, they are sniffing around the holes the people who were ice fishing had made, and in the bottom they are just walking around in the water. I think Mister Taz probably loves water as much as Tawny does!

Stay OFF the lake!

Tuesday April 1st

It was 13C on Tuesday, and water is clearly visible on the surface of the lake. The small clear openings at various places at the edge of the lake are noticeably larger and it is no longer safe to walk on the lake.
