A day of rain

Monday Dec 24, 2007. It got up to +5C or +6C on Sunday, and rained all day, at times quite heavily. This helped some of the snow disappear, but there is still quite a lot of it. Here Tawny is sitting in the same location as on the picture from last Monday Dec 17th, but the snow banks are about a foot shorter. Overnight, it stopped raining and dropped to -6C, so the places where the water didn't drain from are little skating rinks.

This shows the purple LED Christmas lights that we have strung up on the back of our fence. This isn't a very good photo.

Freda and Cooper and Tawny on Saturday Dec 22nd. Cooper is enjoing some carrots, and Freda is enjoying Cooper enjoying the carrots. I wonder if Cooper is a barrell racing horse.

Snowfall aftermath

We had a record 37cm of snow in 24 hours - which beat the previous record of 30.4 cm. With the wind, we had some nice drifting, and as you can see, the drift at the front of the house is over three feet deep as it is taller than Tawny when she is sitting down.

Now that's how you can clear snow quickly

The private contractor who plows our road has a 4x4 truck. He had truck troubles last week and wasn't able to plow our road out the full width and it was only one car wide in some spots. Our neighbour has a Caterpillar dozer for his gravel pit operation, and he put it to use widening our road tonight.

Snowstorm!

We received over 30 cm of snow so far, and another 10cm to come overnight.

View outside the laundry room door. The drifts on the porch are about a foot deep, and the pathway is over three feet deep - the snow reaches to the top of the steps!

The snow is deep even for Tawny!

Driveway photo with flash - the lights by the side of the driveway are partially buried by the snow.

Driveway photo without flash - you can see the lights glowing under the snow.

Snow Day

Tawny couldn't resist checking if the empty bag of dog food really was empty.

Murphy's Law struck the private contractor who plows our road and his truck broke down. I took our snowblower and made a path all the way to the intersecting road - about 3 hrs of work which including getting Freda unstuck as well as our neighbour who tried to drive through the drifts with his big 4x4 truck. Our road hadn't been plowed, and it took the garbage truck six runs before he could get up the hill through all the snow.

Spot the critters

Tawny is sniffing out the critters - Halt! Who goes there she says, with a commanding bark, which all the critters ignore.

My guess is a rabbit. There were a pair of tracks but this photo only shows one.

Looks like a deer. I thought it was quite strange that the deer seemed to have been dragging its feet all the time.

Pano - Nov 30, 2007

Pano - Friday Nov 30, 2007
It has been cold for the past few days. Quite unlike last year when it was mild and we had a green Christmas and did not get snow until January 4th.

No pano yesterday morning (Thurs Nov 29) because it was raining.

Snow beauty

Wet heavy snowfall, November 27, 2007

To me, this looks like a painting - the snow looks like brush strokes.

Into the beautifuo snowy woods

Fresh fallen snow on the tree branches - Nov 24, 2007

Tawny wants to follow the tracks into the woods. We are guessing it is probably a deer.

Pano - Nov 18, 2007 - Ice starting to appear

November 18th, 2007
The temperatures have been milder than normal lately, but it has been cool enough at night that some of the lake has a thin film of ice on it.

Monday November 5

As Tawny and I were going for our morning walk, suddenly all these birds - and there must have been 150 or more - starting flying and swooping around, back and forth across the same area - not flying too high. What a pretty sight! It is so amazing that they can change directions so rapidly without crashing into each other.

Tawny was also fascinated by the birds, as you can see! I think she mostly wanted to chase them. :))

What a cutie!

Can I have a treat, pretty please? What if I cock my head to the side like this and fold my ear over too??

Strange occurances

October 14, 2007 - the sunlight was very strange, it gave a strong golden hue to the grass, but you can see that the grass in the shadows of my legs is still very green. Bizarre.

October 26, 2007 - little drifts of water vapour emanate from the lake. It was 2C this morning.

A few photos

Wed Oct 24, 2007 - No pano today because it was so foggy!

Thursday Oct 25, 2007 - the neighbours house is making good progress. There are bundles of shingles on the roof ready for application.

Tawny is shedding a lot, believe it or not! Here she is enjoying a belly rub from Freda.

Fall Colours

Unique pano - October 15, 2007

Black Walnut tree - given to us by one of Freda's colleagues. It seems to be doing quite well.

October 20th - the roses are still looking great!

October 20th - for some strange reason, the buds on the Iceberg rose have turned a bit pink.

October 21st - sadly, we lost another beautiful creature to a bird strike.

October 15, 2007 pano. The light was really strange here. The grass on the hill looks yellow, but in the shade, it looked green!
