Thanksgiving weekend

Saturday - hundreds of Canada Geese rest on the lake, while several flocks come and join them. There must be at least 60-80 birds in each flock, and there are several of them coming in to land in this photo, to join their fellow geese in a raucously noisy honk fest.

Tawny ran down to the lake to "scare" the geese. All she managed to do was get wet. Of course, she compensated for that by carrying this huge log around for a bit. She could hardly pick it up, it was so big around.

Monday - October 8, 2007: Morden Centennial
Yes, there still are buds coming out on the roses!

We had a light rain since yesterday afternoon, and it looked so pretty on the roses. (This is a Morden Centennial rose bloom.)

Fading fall colours

Not surprisingly, the leaves are falling off the trees and the colours are starting to lose their intensity. It is October, after all!

It started raining this morning, so it was a good thing I did that burning yesterday otherwise all the paper and wood would have just got soaked. As the faithful reader will already know, I wasn't feeling at the top of my form yesterday so I had left the shovel (in case I needed to shovel some dirt on the fire), crowbar (in case I needed to push a piece of wood back into the fire), and gloves (to handle the tools, etc).

Thankfully, I am starting to feel better today.

Looking for Mr Responsibility

Charles showed up this morning and dropped off a letter saying he would like to come on the morning of October 10th with some subtrades to address the deficiencies. I told him he needs to show up with a replacement broom (he broke one when he threw it off the room), replacement ladder bumpers (he removed them when they used my ladder), and the balance for the delayed closing compensation.

Charles tried to claim that he doesn't have to replace the ladder bumpers because he doesn't have them and Dave doesn't have them. I think he needs to look up responsibility in the dictionary, that will save him the $$ for the legal advice where he would need to ask about duty of care.

Indian summer (again)

Another hot day in Ottawa - I think it must have come close to 30C today! Despite the heat, the Canada Geese know that it is time to nip on south, sharpish. Because of the lake, we see hundreds of geese come and go on a daily basis. I figure there must be around 500 geese on the lake or coming in for a landing here (there were more geese on the lake, to the left of the picture).

Tawny was enjoying laying in the sun this morning. I have a bad cold and was also laying down snoozing, partly because I had a Neo-Citran.

After I woke up from my Neo-Citran induced sleep, I decided that since I was just blowing my nose every 8 seconds, it would be a good time to burn the stumps that I had prepared. I had previously dug out around the stumps, and built a teepee of scrap wood around the stumps. However, I didn't have enough scrap wood so the wood burned for a bit and then went out - I don't think it did too much damage to the stumps, unfortunately.

I took this panorama from the lookout - clearly I didn't take enough photos of the sky...

Result of Tarion inspection

Well, since Charles hadn't addressed our deficiency list, we had to have a Tarion inspection. We hadn't heard from Charles and Tarion hadn't either, so we didn't think he would even show up. I had sent Charles a fax asking him to come with a replacement broom for the one he and Dave broke, and the replacement ladder bumpers that he and his crew took off my extension ladder. Charles made some lame excuse that he hadn't received the fax. I didn't believe it for a minute.

To make a long story short, Tarion found that Charles had a lot of deficiencies he had to fix, and gave him until October 17th to make it right, which is just over two weeks away. I will be surprised if Charles does anything.

Beautiful fall weather

Besides having some record setting temperatures this past week (it was 30C on Wednesday!), we have been having some beautiful sunsets.

These fruits look like blueberries, hang on a vine like grapes, and taste like a very tart grape but have a large stone. I wonder what they are called.

A picturesque fall country scene, complete with a horse.

Sat Sep 29th - we saw three deer run across the road right in front of us when we were taking Tawny for a walk this morning. They were about 15 feet away from us, and Tawny almost dislocated my shoulder because she wanted to run after them. She hasn't learned that deer are way faster than her...
