Pretty sights!

 
When I was getting the house ready for a showing, the Little Dickens and the Big Dickens jumped on the bed. You can tell that Tawny knows she wasn't supposed to be there because of the sheepish look on her face. (Oct 18th)

Panorama taken on the morning walk with the dogs.

The American Goldfinches are really enjoying the feeders. I have captured a photo of about 16 of them on the two feeders - unfortunately it was blurry so not worth posting. This photo shows 6 females and one male. We think they are getting fattened up before their migration flight.

This is a cool photo - it shows the sunset, a huge cloud, and rain on the horizon at the right.

More hard work - and a pretty sunset

This weekend we tackled a big job. We had some landscaping done when we moved in and the landscapers didn't do a very good job with putting down the landscape fabric before putting down the stones. So we had a LOT of weeds growing in the flower bed. In some places, there was a 4- or 6-inch gap between the edges of the lanscape fabric. On top of all that, we had some mint growing in there, and mint is the weediest plant that ever lived!

First we pulled all the rocks off the old lanscape fabric and then we pulled up the old landscape fabric (and as many weeds as we could) and put it in a garbage bag.

Then Freda transplanted some plants to fill in a few 'holes' in the flower bed.

Then we started putting down the landscape fabric and weighting it down with stones and a few garden tools. This represents about 13 hours of work, between Freda and me. We stopped at this point and went and got a burger at Wendy's.

We completed putting the landscape fabric down and put back the rocks, being careful not to put all the dirt that was on top of the old landscape fabric as well. This last part took approximately another 5 1/2 hours. I took this photo after I swept all the dirt off the path, but before hosing it off.

All in all, about 18 1/2 hours work. Besides the very much improved flower bed, our backs and legs and hands are sore as well -- bonus!

But the ultimate reward...

Freda and I went out after supper to admire the result of our hard work, and also to enjoy the wonderful sunset!

Feb 16th - Family Day

February 16th was Family Day in Ontario, the 2nd year for the Provincial stat holiday. About time, as it is a long gap between New Year's and Easter...


Pano - sunset. Brilliant sunset tonight.


Toffee loves getting her belly scratched. Here I was rubbing her tummy with one hand and trying to take a photo with the other. Two attempts and missed her head both times... Whoops!


We tried to get all teh dogs to sit for a photo. Chula has a hard time sitting, so we settiled for the three (L-R), Toffee, Taz, Tawny.


Toffee is a pretty girl and likes to snuggle with people. Here she is resting her heavy bony head on Colleen's lap.


Here is Toffee cuddling with Emma.


Emma loves dogs. She was playing with all of them earlier. We have all the mats all over the place to help Chula out, she finds the floor quite slippery and the mats help her walk without her feel slipping out from underneath here.

After 20 cm of snow

We were forecast to get 20-30 cm of snow, but we supposedly only received 20 cm of the white stuff. You can see that we did get some in this pano of the sunset, but not a whole lot.


After a strenuous play, both Tawny and Taz are enjoying their supper. This is actually a rare scene at our house because Taz has such a strange eating schedule. Tawny - not so much: put some food in front of her and she eats it.

Sun is starting to set. It was clear cold day. Not too much snow on the ground. We could use more so we have sufficient runoff in the spring, but we have some time I guess.
